BLAST secondary school project in Navan.
Thanks to Ms Linda McInerney for the invitation to work with second year art students from St. Joseph’s Mercy Secondary School, Navan. Ms. McInerney the art teacher applied to the Navan Education Centre for funding for a BLAST (Bringing Live Artists to Students and Teachers) project.

Fused Glass, BLAST project in the Solstice Art Centre, Navan
It was a great pleasure working with these students, their creative energy and enthusiasm was wonderful. We initially worked or preparatory rubbings and drawings in nature. These works and marks (on paper) were further developed into a series of designs for the development of glass artworks. Having selected their design of choice the students arranged coloured glass frit (particles) and fragments onto clear glass squares of glass in preparation for kiln firing. The completed glass squares will be permanently displayed in the school art room. The students also created a jewellery pendant, in fused glass, that they will keep as a memento of our collaborative project.
The images below demonstrate some of the work involved in the process and of the exhibition of the works which took place in the Solstice Art Centre just before Easter 2022. Many thanks to the staff in the Solstice, especially Deirdre Rogers.
