Glass fusing allows Vera to combine her deep love of rich vibrant colours colours, mark making and layering in a very different material from textiles and printmaking. This relatively new development in her processes has it challenges and rewards. Trapping copper and aluminium elements and wires in between sheets of glass to give a variety and depth of layers, meanings and visuals can at times be challenging to control the outcome. The glass, while undertaking its new process during kiln firing, can at times take on a life of its own.
In lots of ways it resembles the medium of printmaking. The technical process is quite specific and while much care and attention to detail in preparing the plate for printing and the glass for fusing, the printing press as well as the kiln firing informs the finished works, adding a variety of elements to the finished artworks.
