Home is Where the Art Is II exhibition opening in Riverbank Arts Centre, Newbridge, tomorrow Sat 16th June 2018. This exhibition is the end result of 6 artists working with young groups in the Newbridge area. My project was with 10 – 12 year old artists from the Curragh Family Resource Centre After School Group. It was a fun collaborative and participatory project which took place on those beautiful summer afternoons we have just experienced in Ireland. Further project details below. The exhibition runs until 28th July 2018.

Conducting My Drawing, collaborative and participatory artwork on card. Dimensions: 594 mm x 841 mm

Theme: Artist Notebooks

Each young artist was introduced to the concept and practice of keeping an artist notebook for all their personal drawings, ideas, doodles, collage work and whatever they wish to keep in it.

A variety of creative tasks were explored to introduce the process. After the exhibition the notebooks will be returned to the young artists and they can continue working on them in their individual creative ways at home.

The above large scale drawing was developed by all the young artists using markers as they listened to a specific piece of music. They were encouraged to close their eyes and use their markers like a conductors baton, conducting their own drawing in response to the music and the images they conjured up or imagined during the exercise.

Sincere thanks to Alex in the Riverbank Arts Centre and to all in the Curragh Family Resource Centre After School Group for inviting me in. Special thanks to the creative and lively children, it was such a great joy to work there, Vera
